Brahmaputra International University was established in Jamalpur district and granted approval by the University Grants Commission and Ministry of Education in 2013 as a result of the tireless efforts of renowned education evangelist Shahidur Rahman Khan (Retired Principal Govt. Ashek Mahmud College, Jamalpur). In the Mymensingh division, it is the regions first private university.
