Bangladesh is one of the very few numbers of nation states in the globe and the only nation state in South Asia. This state emerged through a long historical struggle and a blood-stained liberation war against the occupiers. Thus, the unique history of development of Bangladesh as a state requires much attention. This course intends to equip students with factual knowledge and analytical skills that will enable them to learn and critically appreciate the historical events in the path of emergence of Bangladesh. The contents covered in this course are supposed to help students to be patriotic and conscious citizen of the country. It will enable them to understand the society, culture and own identities in a historical perspective. It gives them insight into present day situations with the learning from the past. It will also help them to enhance their understanding of current phenomena in the light of history which will make them responsible citizen of Bangladesh. This creates a scope for them to think about their responsibility towards the country and the contribution and sacrifices of people as well as leaders in the path of achieving liberation
